Seven killed in Cavite fire

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna — Seven people were killed when they were trapped in a duplex house in a subdivision in Barangay Buhay na Tubig in Imus, Cavite after a leaking liquefied petroleum gas tank exploded yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Benjardi mantele, Cavite police provincial director, identified the fatalilties as Edwin Barnes, 50; his wife Virginia, 50; and their children Angelo, 16; Gelli1, 12; and Nina Pilapil, 23; and her siblings CI, 17; and Shay, 15.

Mantele said the victims’ neighbors in Villa Primarosa Subdivision told arson investigators that the fire started at around 6:30 a.m. The fire quickly spread from the basement to nearby rented houses after a loud explosion was heard.

Investigators said the victims were trapped at the second floor of the establishment and were all presumed to be asleep when the accident happened. — Arnell Ozaeta, AP
