3 killed in Cavite blast

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna — Three fishermen were killed when a vintage bomb which they had tried to open went off at the coastal boundary of Tanza and Rosario towns in Cavite yesterday morning, the police said.

Witnesses said the victims — Johnny Licanda, 46; Benedicto Peñaflor, 39; and Ricardo Mongolio, all residents of Barangay Wawa, Rosario town — tried to saw off the bomb’s shell to get the gunpowder inside it.

The police said the blast was so strong that it was heard a few kilometers away.– Arnell Ozaeta
