Chavit extends financial help to 2 Pinay DHs’ kin

- Teddy Molina -
VIGAN CITY — Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson made good his promise to extend financial assistance to the families of two Filipina domestic helpers who figured in a tragic murder in Singapore a few months ago.

In a brief program at his Baluarte Hills residence here last Sunday, Singson handed out P200,000 to Edwin Aguilar and P100,000 to Eddie La Puebla.

Aguilar’s wife, Guen, is now facing murder charges in Singapore for the brutal killing of La Puebla’s wife, Jane.

The cash assistance is intended to help both families overcome the crisis they are facing.

Aguilar, a native of Barangay Baracbac in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, said he would use part of the money to help defray the expenses that he would incur in attending the trial of his wife on Dec. 6 and 7.

La Puebla, who hails from Nueva Ecija, profusedly thanked Singson for the assistance, saying the money would go to the debts he had incurred for his wife’s burial.

What is left of the money, according to him, would go to a trust fund for the education of his nine-year-old son Clifford.

Singson handed out his cash assistance to the two families after a "reconciliation Mass" celebrated by Bishop Ernesto Salgado of the Vigan-based Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

La Puebla and Aguilar, accompanied by their relatives, attended the Mass.

Singson was elated by the presence of the two families in the spirit of reconciliation.
