HS principal kills cop, then commits suicide

PAGSANJAN, Laguna — A senior police officer was killed by his son’s godfather, who also shot himself in the head, following a heated argument in Barangay Pinagsanjan here yesterday morning.

Killed were SPO2 Bayani Montesor, 48, assigned to the 405th Provincial Police Mobile Group 4 in Laguna, and Medardo Oblena, principal of Lumot High School in Cavinti town.

Both were active members of the Philippine Guardian Brotherhood Association in Laguna.

Montesor’s son, Mark Sedric, 19, was hit by stray bullets and is in critical condition at the Pagsanjan Hospital.

PO2 Antonio Durado, officer-on-case, said Oblena and his wife, Gemma, went to Montesor’s house last Wednesday afternoon to seek the policeman’s assistance regarding the death threats the principal had been receiving through phone calls and letters.

The Oblena couple stayed with the Montesors for nearly five days. However, at about 4:15 a.m. yesterday, Oblena and Montesor had a verbal tussle that led to the shooting.
