ILOILO CITY A criminology student of a private college here wanted to earn more friends by joining a fraternity but ended up losing his life due to injuries he sustained during hazing rites last weekend.
Nineteen-year-old Dan Robert Talibutab, a sophomore at St. Therese College in La Paz district, passed away at about 2:30 p.m. last Sunday, a day after undergoing initiation rites in Dueñas town.
Police investigators said Talibutab had multiple hematoma and abrasions in different parts of the body.
The STAR tried to get the comment of the St. Therese Colleges dean before noon yesterday, but the school official was not around.
Reports said the fraternity Kapatiran ng Kabataan sa Kriminolohiya, said to be a non-accredited group in the school which also accepts female members, conducted the hazing in Barangay Purog in Dueñas town.
Talibutab returned to his boarding house last Sunday, and collapsed shortly after eating.
He was rushed to the La Paz Maternity Clinic, but was later transferred to the West Visayas State University Medical Center, where attending physicians declared him dead on arrival.
