Laguna rob gang leader slain in shootout

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna — The suspected leader of a notorious robbery gang believed responsible for a series of robberies in San Pedro, Laguna was killed in a shootout with policemen last Monday afternoon.

Chief Superintendent Jesus Ame Verzosa, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police director, identified the slain suspect as Arnel Versosa, alias Boy Tigas, tagged as the leader of the "Tigas gang," which was also involved in kidnappings, car thefts and illegal drugs in Laguna, particularly in San Pedro and Cabuyao.

Versosa shot it out with San Pedro policemen who, armed with an arrest warrant, swooped down on his safehouse in Sitio Pitong Gatang in Barangay San Vicente, San Pedro town. — Ed Amoroso
