BACOLOD CITY Suspected hit men of the New Peoples Army (NPA) shot dead a non-commissioned Army intelligence officer in Guihulngan, Oriental Negros, the military said yesterday.
The killing of S/Sgt. Diosdado Sudayan came four months after suspected rebels also killed his colleague, Sgt. Tranquilino Malcredo, in Barangay San Pablo, Manapla, Negros Occidental.
Both were members of the Armys 11th Infantry Battalion actively involved in monitoring the activities of insurgents in central and northern Negros.
Lt. Col. Abraham Bagasin, commander of the 11th IB, said he tried to transfer Sudayan outside of central Negros because of persistent reports that the NPA had marked him for liquidation.
But Sudayan begged off, saying his transfer would dislocate his family in Guihulngan, he said. Antonieta Lopez
