A birthday celebrator and a driver were killed while two others were injured in a vehicular accident in Antipolo City yesterday.
Police said Joey Felicio, was on his way to celebrate "phase two" of his 22nd birthday with friends when the passenger jeepney he was riding figured in an accident with a van on a street curve along Bgy. Mayamot at about 2 a.m. Felicio sustained injuries in the body and died while being treated at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in Marikina City.
The L-300 van driver, Oscar Montes, 41, also sustained injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the Antipolo City Medical Hospital.
Two others, Montes companion, Mary Ann Manalo, 40, and Henry Caluma, 21, Felicios fellow passengers, were injured and are now undergoing treatment at the ARMC.
Police said Felicio invited his friends to a drinking session to celebrate his birthday at their house at San Juan St., in Bgy. Mayamot last Sunday. At past midnight, Felicio invited his eight friends to a "phase two" celebration at a girlie bar in Cainta, Rizal. The group flagged down and boarded a passenger jeepney, driven by one Robert Estanislao.
A traffic investigator theorized that Estanislao was driving too fast and failed to step on the brakes while maneuvering a sharp curve near the Lopezville Subdivision in Bgy. Mayamot.
Estanislao gave himself up peacefully.
Police are readying charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and multiple physical injuries and damage to property against Estanislao, who is now languishing in the Antipolo City police detention center.
