Arrest motorcycle drag racers, orders GenSan CPO

- Ramil Bajo -
KORONADAL CITY — "Arrest the motorcycle drag racers."

This was the order issued yesterday by General Santos City Police Office chief Senior Superintendent Alfredo Toroctocon to the operatives of the Criminal Investigation Branch and Traffic Control Unit after talking with the residents who are complaining about the "drag races."

Drag racers, reportedly participated in by some prominent personalities in the city, hold their "races" from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. in the streets and subdivisions of the city. Sources said the races involve big amounts of money.

"May pustahan at kung minsan malakihan pa nga eh. Minsan pa nga umaabot ng
P5,000 hanggang P10,000 ang pustahan," a source, who witnessed the race once, said.

Toroctocon told The STAR that residents complained against the drag racers because they are disturbing their sleep, saying "masyadong maingay daw ang mga tunog ng kanilang mga motorcycles at hindi sila makatulog."

He said the drag race is "illegal" because it involves betting of money.

The STAR
learned that scores of residents have already filed complaints about the drag races with the office of the TCU, headed by Senior Inspector Edelito Cawit.

Cawit said all of the complaining residents are demanding that the drag races be stopped immediately.

He said Toroctocon ordered him to launch an entrapment operation and arrest people who are involved and behind the said illegal drag race.

Toroctocon warned the drag racers, especially "big-time" racers, to stop or face arrest.
