-
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna — A physician was killed while his companion was seriously wounded when a drug addict shot them as they were walking home along Brgy. San Andres, Alaminos, Laguna on Saturday afternoon, police said.

P/Supt Gil Blando Lebin, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group regional director, identified the victim as Dr. Leonardo Bernardo, 54, assistant director of the Medical Central Hospital in San Pablo City. He was declared dead on the spot. He sustained eight gunshot wounds in the body.

The wounded, Eric Magpantay, was rushed to the Alaminos Hospital for a gunshot wound in the leg.

According to SPO4 Roosevelt Legaspi, CIDG4 investigator and officer-on-case, at around 12:35 p.m., the victim and his two neighbors had just come from their friend’s house. Legaspi said the victims were walking on their way home when the suspect suddenly appeared armed with a caliber .30 carbine and at close range shot the victims.

SPO1 Relito Tenores, Alaminos investigator, refused to divulge the name of the suspect since a manhunt operation is on-going. — Ed Amoroso
