"We are working on some leads but we cannot discuss them in public at this time. A team from our national office will be here to assist us in solving the killing," said NBI senior agent Paul Rivera.
Rivera said the NBI will consider the information gathered by the Cagayan police in the killing of BSP regional manager Fidel Dizon-Alvarez.
Alvarez, 40, of Malabon, Metro Manila, was gunned down while he was walking along Gonzaga street here, about five meters away from the BSP building, at about 6:40 p.m. last June 30.
Minutes before the incident, Alvarez was seen watching a television program inside his office with one of the BSP’s security guards.
Investigators remain clueless on the motive behind the gunslaying, although initial investigation showed that it could be related to his work or to a supposed love triangle.
Chief Superintendent Jefferson Soriano, Cagayan Valley police director, welcomed the NBI’s move, saying his men and the NBI probers can work together to expedite the solution of the Alvarez slay case.
