A 44-year-old businessman, who was abducted by armed men after robbing him and his family of about P600,000 in cash and valuables in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro last Thursday night, was found dead the following day with a bullet wound in the cheek in nearby Pinamalayan town.
Aside from the gunshot wound, Alex Mangonday was also stabbed in the abdomen. Passersby found his body on the roadside in Barangay Pambisan Malaki, Pinamalayan town.
Reports said armed men accosted Mangonday at gunpoint as he, along with his wife, Angelina, 45, and five others, was entering the gate of their residence in Barangay Maligaya, Gloria town on board the familys Hyundai van.
The armed men, wearing camouflage uniforms and ski masks, introduced themselves as policemen and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents and then divested the Mangondays of their cash and valuables.
Not contended, some of them entered the Mangonday residence and ransacked it.
