5 dead in twin mishaps

Five people, including two children, were killed, while 11 others were injured in highway accidents in Bataan and Marinduque, authorities said.
In Mariveles, Bataan, a 10-wheeler cargo truck plowed through 10 houses along the national highway in Sitio Baladasan, Barangay Mt. View yesterday morning, killing two people, including the truck driver, and injuring seven others, among them two children aged two and three months.
In Boac, Marinduque, meanwhile, a tricycle passenger and his two daughters aged six and seven were killed and four others the mans wife and nine-year-old son were hurt when a wayward passenger jeepney slammed into their vehicle last Sunday afternoon. Arnell Ozaeta, Ric Sapnu
CAMP AQUINO, Tarlac City The Armed Forces Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) awarded medals to 15 soldiers involved in the June 12 clash in Mexico, Pampanga where 13 fighters of the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan, a communist breakaway group, were slain.
The 15 soldiers were 1Lt. Joel Banatao, who was awarded the Gold Cross Medal and First Bronze Anahaw Leaf; 2Lt. Benny Espanola, S/Sgt. Tito Demayo, S/Sgt. Jayme Reyes and Cpl. A younger brother of Chief Superintendent Andy Caro, director of the Aviation Security Group (ASG), accidentally killed himself while playing Russian roulette with a caliber .38 revolver inside his office in Binangonan, Rizal yesterday.
Police said the victim, Antonio Caro, 44, supervisor of the family-owned Catego ice plant, toyed with the gun while he was waiting for the morning-shift guard to arrive.
But the gun went off in Caros mouth, the bullet exiting through his nape. Non Alquitran
