Talisay keen on Guinness record for longest lechon line

- Garry B. Lao -
CEBU — Talisay City is eyeing a world record for the longest line of "kissing" roasted pigs that would showcase the best of the Talisaynons’ party table.

For the attempt, city councilor Shirley Belleza, who chairs the committee on tourism, said more than 300 roasted pigs, also known as lechon or inasal, will be grilled at the junction of Lawaan and San Isidro along the Cebu South Coastal Road.

Belleza said she looked into the Guinness Book of World Records and found no such feat made so far.

The pigs will be arranged so that each pair will be snout-to-snout as if "kissing."

To make it to Guinness, the event will be documented by the Philippine Geodetic Engineers Association.

Belleza said the city is expected to spend up to P2 million for the feat, and will seek financial assistance from the provincial government.

The Talisay tourism commission will meet with the travel and tour operators and the event coordinators on June 14 to discuss the budget, including expenses for promotion and marketing of the Guinness record attempt.

The feat will be one of the highlights of the city’s halad festival in October in celebration of the Feast of St. Theresa de Avila, the city’s patron saint.

"Don’t underestimate the economic impact of the affair," Belleza said. "It means money for tricycle drivers, inasal makers, hog-raisers and charcoal makers." — Freeman News Service
