Gun attack targets Dagupan radioman

- Eva Visperas, Cesar Ramirez -
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A service pick-up of dzRH Dagupan was fired at, the bullet hitting the driver’s window, while the broadcaster using the vehicle was attending a wedding reception in a hotel here at noon last Thursday.

Allan Sison, 37, operations and production manager of dzRH Dagupan, told The STAR that the guests during the wedding, where he was one of the sponsors, were coming out of the hotel when the incident happened.

"Perhaps, the suspect thought I was already inside our patrol car," he said, referring to his company’s white pick-up with license plate UJF 126.

The bullet pierced the driver’s window and went through the other front seat door.

"It could have been fatal. Maybe, I still have an unfinished mission that’s why I am still alive," Sison said.

He claimed seeing the gunman inside the hotel, but requested that the suspect’s identity be not revealed.

Sison said it was his first time not to have a driver.

Immediately after the incident, he called up Senior Superintendent Mario Sandiego, provincial police director, who, in turn, ordered the Lingayen police to assist him.

The police recovered a slug of unknown caliber at the scene. The slug was brought to the police crime laboratory in Urdaneta City for examination.

Sison said he has been receiving threats through phone calls and text messages.

Describing himself as a hard-hitting broadcaster, Sison said he got the latest threatening text when he was discussing the P5-million media fund of Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and President Arroyo.

"Ikaw ang unang gagamit ng project ni De Venecia na yan (You will be the first one to benefit from that De Venecia project)," the text message read.

Raul Tamayo, president of the Pangasinan Press and Radio Inc., condemned the incident.

"We will not take this sitting down. We will ask the proper authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and we will ask them to give us the results of their probe," he said.
