Meningo alert at Laguna hospital

-
SAN PEDRO, Laguna — Health authorities have temporarily closed the Jose L. Amante Emergency Hospital here to fumigate all its rooms and facilities and administer antibiotics to its personnel supposedly to prevent the spread of meningococcemia, a fatal bacterial disease.

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Alabang, Muntinlupa City reportedly made the move after a six-month-old baby girl, who was taken to the hospital last Thursday, was found positive for meningococcemia.

A nurse at the hospital refused to divulge the baby’s ailment and denied that she has died, contrary to reports. — Rene Alviar
