Cebu businessman’s kin confirm abduction

- Flor Z. Perolina -
CEBU — The parents of the Chinese businessman who was reportedly abducted in Mandaue City last March 14 have told the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER) that their son was really kidnapped.

PACER-7 deputy chief Beinvenido Premne yesterday said his men have already met the alleged victim’s parents who said their son is suffering from trauma after the incident but they would not file a complaint because he was released and returned home safely anyway.

But Premne said PACER will continue its investigation of the incident citing testimonies of some of the victim’s friends and some inconsistencies in the report gathered so far.

PACER was able to talk to some of the victim’s friends, however, who allegedly said they suspect that the victim only wanted to run away from his creditors.

Premne also noted that there were some inconsistencies in the information that the victim relayed to Bombo Radyo station in Butuan City where he allegedly sought refuge. The victim told the radio station that he was released by his three kidnappers 20 days after being kidnapped from his apartment in Mandaue.

PACER is wondering why there was no ransom money involved although the victim claimed that his kidnappers took his P380,000 cash that he intended to deposit in a bank at that time. PACER also questioned why there was no abduction complaint reported to the authorities for the past 20 days.

PACER further found it impossible for the victim’s captors to use a pump boat in transporting him to Davao del Norte from Cebu, as what the victim narrated, because the province is located farther in the southern part of Mindanao.

Premne said PACER would still continue its investigation, especially on the victim’s businesses in Cebu City. Freeman News Service
