‘Dog Walk’ aims for a Guinness

-
CLARK FIELD, Pampanga — Palm Sunday is also for the dogs.

This morning, the Philippine Canine Club Inc. (PCCI) will attempt to make it to the Guinness Book of World Records by staging a simultaneous "dog walk" involving more than 5,017 dogs in 17 areas nationwide.

Aside from targeting a world record, the event, dubbed "Dog Walk for a Cause, Luv Ko si Bantay," will protest the "senseless cruelty and indiscriminate slaughter of dogs," the PCCI said.

The event is also aimed at promoting "responsible pet ownership," the group said.

The existing Guinness "dog walk" record, involving 5,017 dogs, was recorded in England on June 20, 2004.

The event will simultaneously start at 6 a.m. today at the Luneta Grandstand in Manila, Clark Field in Pampanga, the cities of Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, General Santos and Iloilo, and in Batangas, Bohol, Bukidnon, Bulacan, La Union, Laguna, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Cavite. — Ding Cervantes
