Former Basilan dad killed in ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY — A former councilor of Sumisip, Basilan was killed and his companion was wounded when they were ambushed last Thursday afternoon, the military said.

Former councilor Jay Como and his friend, Mohammad Hussein, were cruising Barangay Upper Kabembeng in Sumisip town aboard a motorcycle when they were fired at with M-16 Armalite rifles.

Police believe that an old grudge motivated the killing, and are eyeing a Sumisip village leader as a suspect. — Roel Pareño
