Bataan cop escapes ambush

-
BALANGA CITY, Bataan — A motorcycle-riding policeman survived an ambush by three suspected members of a breakaway communist group while he was on his way to investigate an illegal drug-related case in Limay town last Friday night.

Police said PO1 Joy Apostol, 33, was cruising the national road in Barangay St. Francis, Limay town when three men believed belonging to the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbo ng Bayan (RHB) flagged him down.

Apostol drew his service pistol and fired at his would-be attackers. A firefight ensued, leaving him wounded in the right leg.

Police suspect that one of the RHB men was Menandro de la Cruz, who Apostol helped arrest last Aug. 20 on charges of illegal possession of firearms. — Raffy Viray
