E. Visayas workers get P7 COLA hike
August 6, 2004 | 12:00am
TACLOBAN CITY The Eastern Visayas wage board approved the other day a P7 increase in the cost of living allowance (COLA) and a uniform daily minimum wage of P177 for workers in the region.
Forter Puguon, regional head of the labor department, said workers who render full-day service will now get a COLA of P18.
Puguon said the board agreed to enforce a uniform regional wage since the prices of basic goods "are the same whether you are in Leyte or Samar."
There are some two million workers in the region.
The new wage order will take effect 15 days after it is published in a newspaper with regional circulation. Miriam Garcia Desacada
