Cotabato City pols want more soldiers

COTABATO CITY — Prodded by local Muslim and Christian leaders, the opposition-dominated city council is urging the military to deploy more soldiers here to stem the rise in crimes in commercial districts and densely populated barangays.

The city council, in a resolution sponsored by councilor Orlando Badoy, appealed to the Army’s 6th Infantry Division to immediately assign a contingent here to assist the local police in curbing criminality.

For more than a year now, guns-for-hire have been operating here with impunity, killing at least three residents every week. — John Unson
