A Leyte town mayor and his son were killed in an ambush in Cebu City yesterday afternoon, the military said.
Mayor Roy Jumao-as of Hindang town and his son, Jake, were aboard a taxi when two men peppered them with bullets along Gen. Maxilom Avenue at about 3:45 p.m.
Father and son died a few hours later at Velez Hospital.
Maj. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, commander of the Armed Forces Central Command, said Jumao-as was shot in the chest while his son sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Jumao-as was a policeman actively involved in counter-insurgency operations before he was elected mayor. Authorities are also looking at politics as the angle behind the killing, Ligot said. Jaime Laude, Miriam Garcia Desacada
