‘Peace radio station’ rises in Tiruray turf

UPI, Maguindanao — Foreign donors have put up here a 300-watt "peace radio station," something Tiruray natives never before thought would exist in their community which has long been struggling to preserve traditional means of resolving conflicts.

This town’s re-electionist mayor, Ramon Piang, himself a Tiruray timuay (chieftain), said radio station dxUP, 105.5 on the FM band, will focus on peace-building and reconciliation programs.

The radio station was jointly put up by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), through its Local Government Support Program in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (LGSP-ARMM), and the Notre Dame Foundation for Charitable Activities Inc.-Women in Enterprise Development (NDFCAI-WED), which is bankrolled by the United States Agency for International Development. — John Unson
