Cebu vice gov bucked on conditions for lie test

CEBU — Vice Gov. John Gregory Osmeña’s setting of conditions in accepting the challenge for a lie detector test is an "implied admission" of his alleged involvement in a fund mess involving a foundation, Gov. Pablo Garcia said.

Garcia said the dare of his daughter, Gwendolyn, for Osmeña to take a lie detector test should be accepted without any conditions if the vice governor is not guilty of allegedly defrauding the province of P5 million.

When Osmeña delivered a privilege speech at the provincial board last Monday, he claimed that a female provincial consultant, obviously referring to Gwendolyn, had set him up in the Perdido Lex controversy.

He alleged that the consultant was the one who introduced him to Milagros Herrera, the president of the bogus foundation.

Gwendolyn reacted by challenging him to take a lie detector test to determine who between them was telling lies.

Osmeña, in turn, openly accepted the challenge but on four conditions.

He said the tests should be held in Manila, Gwendolyn should go first, gubernatorial bet Celestino Martinez Jr. should also be included, and that test questions should not be limited to Perdido Lex matters only.

"That’s not the posture of an innocent man," the governor said.

Gwendolyn said she does not understand why Osmeña wants the test done in Manila when there are Cebuanos who are capable of doing it here.

She said Osmeña should accept the challenge without any conditions. "The challenge remains. Let’s take the lie detector test," she said.

The governor said there are documents which could show Osmeña’s alleged culpability in the flow of funds to Perdido Lex from the latter’s office. — Freeman News Service
