Ex-vice mayor gunned down

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte — A former vice mayor of Salvador town was gunned down while he was on his way to the provincial capitol last Friday, police said.

Senior Superintendent Laut Sarip, provincial police director, said Maki Tawantawan, 62, was shot at close range by a lone gunman outside a commercial center in Barangay Maranding in Lala town.

Tawantawan, an uncle of Salvador Mayor Raida Tawantawan and Sultan Johnny Tawantawan, was described by relatives as well-liked in the community.

Second district Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo met with the Tawantawan clan and several town mayors and leaders in the district to prevent further violence.- Lino de la Cruz
