3 PNCC men return bag with P.25-M cash

-
At a time when honesty is rare, three security officers of the Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC) proved that there is still hope in this cynical world.

Last Monday, PNCC security and traffic officers Edwin Mau—ricio, Eduardo Guarico and Eric Nollora showed that there are still decent and honorable men in the public service when, while on duty at the toll plaza in Calamba, Laguna, they found a leather bag containing more than P250,000 in cash as well as other valuables.

The bag, which they spotted on the pavement near Lane No. 3 of the toll plaza, contained 38 pieces of $100 bills, 16 pieces of P1,000 bills, ATM cards, bank books and a driver’s license.

The three PNCC employees immediately tried to reach the owner of the bag, a certain Cristy Rancho of Sta. Rosa, Laguna who works for the Lady Ester Lingerie Corp. in New York, through a telephone directory which they found inside the bag.

When they failed to reach her, they contacted another person listed in the telephone directory, who, in turn, informed Rancho that her bag was in the custody of the PNCC officers.

The PNCC officers directly turned over the bag to the company’s traffic security and safety department for safekeeping.

When Rancho arrived at the PNCC office, she could only heave a sigh of relief that she was able to recover her bag.

According to Rancho, the bag must have fallen from her Mitsubishi wagon when she paid the toll fee, saying she opened the car’s door instead of rolling down its window.

She said she discovered that her bag was missing only when she was already at the Star tollway in Sto. Tomas, Batan
