Typhoid outbreak kills 1, downs 27 in Albay

MALILIPOT, Albay Health authorities are going from house to house in the island-barangay of Salvacion here to investigate an outbreak of typhoid fever that has so far killed the village chief and downed 27 other residents.
Dr. Arnel Binalaya, municipal health officer, said a joint surveillance unit from the regional office of the Department of Health and the provincial health unit are conducting the inquiry.
Binalaya said Salvacion barangay chairman Atilano Luminares died at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital after suffering from on and off fever, nausea, vomiting, loose vowel movement and abdominal pain for about a month.
Binalaya said the 27 other typhoid patients are now confined at the Ziga Memorial Hospital in Tabaco City. Celso Amo
