Intensity 4 quake hits Central Luzon

An Intensity 4 tectonic earthquake jolted the provinces of Pampanga and Tarlac in Central Luzon at exactly 5:14 yesterday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake, which was triggered by movement of the East Zambales Fault, was felt in Clark Field, Pampanga and in Tarlac, Tarlac.

Registering a Magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale, the quake’s epicenter was located at 28 kilometers west of Tarlac and had a shallow depth of focus at 19 kilometers.

Phivolcs said the 5:14 a.m. event was not expected to cause any damage nor be followed by strong aftershocks," Phivolcs said. — With Ding Cervantes
