2 Cebu mayors seek relief of police chiefs

CEBU — The mayors of the towns of Minglanilla and Liloan have recommended the relief of their respective police chiefs.

Minglanilla Mayor Marlo Cañada earlier requested the relief of Superintendent Manuel Navia because of his "ineffectiveness."

Cebu police director Maximo Calimlim said Cañada told him of Navia’s failure to curb illegal activities in the town.

There were also reports that Navia could not be seen in his office most of the time.

But Calimlim said he will only issue a relief order to Navia once he receives a recommendation from the municipal peace and order council.

He said Navia will be temporarily replaced by provincial police spokesman Virgilio Orillaneda.

Meanwhile, Calimlim has issued a relief order for Liloan police chief Januario Sario after Liloan Mayor Maria Sevilla asked for his relief.

Although Calimlim failed to explain why Sevilla disliked Sario, he said Sario "failed to settle" his internal problems. — Freeman News Service
