Investigation showed that Borromeo Ong, 57, owner of Master Builders Fabrication in Cainta, and his wife, Lea, were jogging at about 5 a.m. along Don Celso Tuazon Avenue at the Valley Golf Subdivision when a Kia Besta blocked their path.
Six men got out of the van and at gunpoint, snatched Ong and forced him into their vehicle. They then sped off toward Ortigas Avenue Extension.
Police said Ongs wife flagged down a tricycle and tried to follow the van but failed when the tricycle developed engine trouble.
Police said the kidnappers turned right upon reaching Ortigas Avenue, near Gate 1 of Valley Golf Subdivision. The Ongs reside at Eastern Heights Subdivision, also in Cainta.
According to the Camp Crame report, the security guard manning Gate 1 had spotted the kidnappers van prior to the incident and tried to stop it from entering the subdivision. But its occupants ignored the guard and drove on.
However, the Gate 1 guard, police said, failed to inform the subdivisions other security personnel about the van.
The Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER) has taken over the case.
