The task force, headed by Chief Superintendent Manuel Cabigon, has so far recovered 21 of those vehicles, with a total value of P20 million, during an eight-day operation in Angeles City.
The recovered vehicles were presented to Interior and Local Government Secretary Jose Lina at the DILG central office in Quezon City yesterday.
Cabigon said the subject of their manhunt is a certain Aminah "Dulce" Macusi. The woman is said to be the wife of Superintendent Rolando Macusi, who was relieved as police chief of San Fernando City, La Union yesterday.
But the police officer denied that the suspect was indeed his wife who, he said, retired from the Philippine National Bank in 1998.
Cabigon said they are collating evidence for the filing of a criminal case for large-scale swindling against the suspect.
Task Force Jericho, he said, acted on the complaints of at least seven car rental companies about the suspect’s alleged modus operandi.
Last June 26, Cabigon said his men recovered a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan Sentra in Angeles City. The Nissan Sentra was found in the possession of a retired policeman, who told task force members that he rented the car from a certain Dulce.
