Calatagan town councilor Bernardo Gomez, 50, was killed yesterday morning when two motorcycle riding men gunned him down at around 8 a.m. at Barangay Real, Calatagan, Batangas police said.
P/Ssupt. Rodolfo Magtibay said Gomez was on his way to the town hall aboard his owner type jeep (DSE 265), when two suspects blocked his path and shot him with an armalite rifle.
Gomez, who was about to attend his regular session at the Sangguniang Bayan, was the third Batangas town official felled by an assassin starting March until May. Rolando Meer, Sangguniang Bayan secretary was gunned down earlier by an assassin in front of his house in Sto. Tomas, Batangas on March 14. Rene Eugenio, a councilor of Talisay town was also killed on April 24 by a lone gunman at Tanauan City around 7 p.m. Both cases are still under investigation. Arnell Ozaeta
