It’s ‘strike 2’ in Cagayan: More jueteng workers fall

It’s strike 2 in Cagayan, and the provincial police director apparently has reason to worry.

This, after the Task Force Jericho of the Department of the Interior and Local Government arrested 10 more jueteng personnel last Thursday, bringing to 57 the total haul in two straight days.

Chief Superintendent Manuel Cabigon, task force chief, said Superintendent Rodrigo de Gracia, Cagayan police director, is in danger of losing his post.

Under Interior and Local Government Secretary Jose Lina’s "three strikes, your’re out" policy, a police official will automatically be relieved from his post after three successive jueteng raids in his turf.

A Task Force Jericho team, headed by Chief Inspector Christopher Birung, swooped down on a jueteng den in Barangay Masi, Sta. Teresita, Cagayan and arrested 19 people in the act of drawing the winning number combinations.

Last Wednesday, Birung’s team arrested 38 other people during a raid in Barangay Callao Norte, Lasam town, and seized P1,600 in cash and jueteng paraphernalia.

Those arrested identified a certain Reyes of Bulacan as their financier, Cabigon said.
