Seven arrested members of an organized kidnap for ransom group operating in Misamis Oriental, bolted the Claveria Municipal jail on Friday, belated reports said yesterday.
Camp Crame reports identified the escapees as Eduardo Sumilla, 37; Ricky Humaynon, 23; Rogelio Paguya, 31; Joshue Sumilla, 21; Rolando Aras, 19; Billy Salocana, 15 and Rodolfo Humaynon, 16.
The said escapees were all members of the Disperadong Magahat kidnapping group, facing charges of kidnapping with serious illegal detention, robbery and murder before the local court in Claveria.
Local authorities, however, did not report circumstances on how the detainees were able to escape.
In a related development, nine drug suspects detained at the Taytay, Rizal detention cell staged a jailbreak early Sunday morning after overpowering a lone guard on duty.
The suspects who remained at large as of yesterday were identified as Enrico Calderon, Jonathan Claudio, Noel Lopez, Edgardo Senase, Peter Lorenzo, Hermie dela Pena, Leandro Serna, Rodolfo Villanueva and Romeo Castillo.
Initial investigation showed the jailbreak happened after one of the drug suspects struck with a piece of wood jail guard Senior Jail Officer 1 (SJO1) Antonio Alcoreza to the head as he opened the door of the detention cell in time for the serving of breakfast for all the detainees.
Seeing Alcoreza down, the detainees simultaneously rushed toward the adjacent main door of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and joined the crowd of churchgoers who have just attended the Palm Sunday Mass at the nearby St. John the Baptist Church.
Joint elements of the Rizal provincial police office, and the Taytay BJMP are still conducting operations to recapture the escaped detainees.
