Scaffolding caves in in Subic; 2 dead

-
Two construction workers and four other people were seriously injured yesterday when the steel scaffolding of a warehouse under construction at the Subic Bay freeport collapsed, port administrators said.

The warehouse is part of the P360-million bulk terminal project of Tacoma Inc., a Filipino-owned fertilizer firm, being set up at Cubi Point, they said.

Subic was formerly a major US naval base but the Americans were forced to leave in 1992 when the Senate rejected a new bases treaty. – Paolo Romero, Jen Velarmino, AFP
