Cavite Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle disclosed yesterday that the Catholic Church is reviving old practices, including the praying of rosary with more mysteries.
He pointed out that the adoption of five more mysteries to the praying of rosary as ordered by Pope John Paul recently is not actually new but a very old Catholic tradition.
"There are actually 150 mysteries of the rosary in the olden days but it was shortened as it became a Marian prayer," Tagle said at the weekly radio program "CBCP on the Air."
Tagle explained that the Pope decided to add to the current 15 mysteries to the rosary so that Catholics will be able to deeply meditate on the life and sufferings of Christ.
"The life of Christ has so many episodes that Catholic have to ponder through praying of the rosary," he said.
Despite the addition of more mysteries to the rosary, the Catholic Church expressed optimism that Catholic devotees will continue praying the rosary daily as before. Mayen Jaymalin
