Davao City cops tighten security

DAVAO CITY — Authorities have tightened security in foreign consulates here following the bombings in Bali, Indonesia Saturday night.

"We have taken the necessary security measures for these consulates. We have coordinated with them," said Chief Superintendent Isidro Lapeña, Southern Mindanao police director.

Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan have consulates in this city.

Lapeña said policemen are also securing potential targets like tourist spots, commercial centers and crowded public places.

Elements of the maritime police, the Navy and Coast Guard are also patrolling the Davao Gulf to prevent incursions similar to what happened at a Samal beach resort last year.

Lapeña said they have also asked the management of the different hotels here to tighten their internal security.

Mall owners, on the other hand, have been told to double their security alert level, he said. — Edith Regalado
