NBI, PNP at odds in radioman slay probe

PAGADIAN CITY — The investigation into the murder of a radioman here became more complicated with the police and the National Bureau of Investigation pursuing different suspects, who remain at large.

This development has prompted prosecutors to evaluate first and consolidate all evidence and testimonies before filing any case and issuing a warrant against any suspect.

The police here, based on a statement of a witness, has tagged one Geronie Kilme as suspect in the killing of Edgar Damalerio, a radio commentator at RPN’s dxKP radio station here, last May.

The National Bureau of Investigation, meanwhile, produced another suspect, based on a statement of another witness pointing to PO1 Guillermo Wapile of this city’s police force as the alleged gunman.

Both Kilme, the police suspect, and Wapile, the NBI suspect, have gone into hiding, according to Spencer Fernan, a senior clerk at the city prosecutor’s office.

Meanwhile, the widow of Damalerio have left their residence in San Jose district here after receiving death threats from unknown persons following his murder. — Lino dela Cruz
