‘Sofia’ gang member nabbed

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A member of the "Abu Sofia" kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction of a Korean national and a Filipino hotel owner last Feb. 6 in Saran—gani was arrested here yesterday.

The suspect, Ismael Binago, alias Mike and Commander Bondi, was nabbed by a joint police-military team in his hideout at Mohammad Village in Barangay Labangal.

Binago was nabbed on the strength of arrest warrants for the abduction of Korean Jae Keon Yoon, who is still in captivity, and hotel owner Carlos Belonio, who was freed last March 29.

Binago was cornered in the compound of Hadji Ayub Mindog, former vice chairman of the Moro National Liberation Front’s Selatan Kutawato State Revolutionary Committee based in Sarangani. — John Paul Jubelag, Jaime Laude
