Mayor charged for mauling trigger-happy policeman

- Charlie Lagasca -
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — A mayor of a coastal town here found himself the subject of a criminal complaint for allegedly mauling a drunken policeman who had allegedly fired his service firearm indiscriminabely.

Chief Supt. Dominador Resos Jr., Cagayan Valley police director, said that a criminal case was filed against Claveria Mayor Pablo Bolante for allegedly punching PO2 Rizal Castillo several times inside the police office.

The case stemmed from an incident after Bolante went to the police station to report Castillo’s alleged indiscriminate firing during an altercation with a fellow policeman.

While waiting for the police chief to arrive, Bolante saw Castillo inside the police office and started castigating him for the indiscriminate firing he reportedly committed. Bolante reportedly went on to box and pistol-whip Castillo causing injuries on the policeman’s head.

Resos said Castillo is also being investigated for the indiscriminate firing he allegedly committed. He was reportedly drunk when he fired his gun.
