Osmeña released from hospital

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña was finally released from the hospital at noontime yesterday after his doctors certified that he is back to normal. But the mayor will not be reporting to his office at the City Hall until after a week’s leave of absence which started last Wednesday, and will end this week.

The Freeman
tried to interview Osmeña at his house yesterday, but his wife, Margot requested that the mayor be given a few more days to rest before facing the media.

"Nalipay na kaayo si
Tommy nga nakauli na g’yod sya sa balay," said a smiling Margot.

Osmeña stayed at the hospital for eight days after he suffered high blood pressure of 240 over 120 while he was attending a wedding ceremony at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral last March 9. While Osmeña was confined at the hospital, well-wishers visited him to show their moral support. Even the Sto. Niño sidewalk vendors, whose stalls are threatened to be demolished at the order of Osmeña, said they are praying for the mayor’s health everyday by performing the Sinulog dance.

The Sto. Niño sidewalk vendors were among those who sent fresh flowers and fruits to Osmeña after he was brought to the hospital last week.

Dr. Manuel Lim, Osmeña’s private doctor suggested that the mayor should stop smoking and drinking too much liquor.

Cathy Yso, Osmeña’s private secretary, said the mayor usually wakes up at around 5 a.m to eat his breakfast, but eats his lunch and dinner late.

One of the doctors who immediately attended to Osmeña when he was rushed to the Chong Hua Hospital last March 9, said the mayor might have lost his life if he was late in reaching the hospital even for a matter of minutes. Freeman News Service
