Ex-Tarlac gov convicted

-
The Sandiganbayan sentenced former Tarlac governor Mariano Un Ocampo III from 10 to 18 years in jail for misusing P1.2 million in provincial funds in 1988.

The anti-graft court’s fifth division said it found Ocampo "guilty beyond reasonable doubt" of three counts of malversation of public funds.

Also meted the same jail term was Andres Flores, executive officer of the Lingkod Tarlac Foundation Inc., of which Ocampo was the chairman of the board of trustees.

Ocampo and Flores were also ordered to pay fines totaling P1,257,671.70 for the three counts of malversation of public funds.

The two were found guilty of profiting from funds loaned from the National Aid for Local Government Units from Nov. 2, 1988 to Feb. 27, 1989. Jose Rodel Clapano
