Gualberto kin ambushed

Batangas City — A close relative of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Chief Nestorio Gualberto was ambushed on his way home at Sitio Puti, Barangay Tabangao, Sunday afternoon, police said.

P/Supt. Restito Hernandez, Batangas City police chief identified the victim as Dante Gualberto Fajardo, 63, resident of Barangay Sinlong and a former barangay captain of the said place.

Fajardo was shot dead at close range while on board his owner type jeep. His wife Gliceria, 65, sister Lourdes and granddaughter Berna, 12, escaped unscathed in the ambush incident.

According to report, while Fajardo together with his family were on their way home aboard his jeep with plate number DSG 107, unidentified men aboard a gray car blocked their path and opened fire with an M-16 rifle at Fajardo, hitting him in the face and head.

Investigators said the motive for killing Fajardo might be political because sources said that the victim had vital information on hand that can implicate a former barangay official in anomalous dealings.

CIDG Director Gualberto has ordered CIDG Batangas to handle the case and take over the investigation from Batangas PNP. — Arnell Ozaeta
