Cory, FVR lead Davao’s EDSA rites

-
DAVAO CITY — Former Presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos are expected here today to lead the 16th anniversary celebration of People Power I.

This city was one of the key points of protests against the Marcos dictatorship before Mrs. Aquino was installed president, through people power at EDSA, in 1986.

While the so-called "EDSA Revolution" was taking place, mass rallies were simultaneously being held here.

Mrs. Aquino was actually expected here on Feb. 23, 1986 to lead the protest actions but she was not able to make it because she had to proceed to Metro Manila for the EDSA activities.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, banana industrialist Jesus Ayala, Davao Archbishop Fernando Capalla and other convenors of the Yellow Friday movement in Southern Mindanao have lined up several commemorative activities today, starting with a Mass at the San Pedro Cathedral at 3 p.m.

Besides joining Mrs. Aquino in the anniversary rites, Ramos will grace the First FVR Mindanao Golf Tournament at the Rancho Palos Verdes golf course tomorrow. Edith Regalado
