Cebu City under state of calamity

-
CEBU CITY — The city council has declared the city under a state of calamity and approved the release of P1 million for the emergency purchase of food for families affected by tropical storm "Nanang" and for relief and rescue operations.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo, vice chairman of the council’s social services committee, said the money, to be taken from the city’s P53.8-million calamity fund, will be used to buy food, flashlights, batteries, raincoats, chainsaws and three portable generators.

The state of calamity was declared after several parts of the city was flooded due to strong rains dumped by "Nanang."

Cebu Gov. Pablo Garcia urged the provincial board to declare a state of calamity in the cities of Talisay and Toledo and in the towns of Minglanilla and Naga which were badly hit by the tropical storm.

At least three persons, two of them children, were reported dead and 10 others missing as of Wednesday night. Freeman News Service
