DOH firms up tie-up with LGUs

The country’s local government units (LGUs) are tapping powers devolved to them by the national government to bolster their partnership with the Department of Health in promoting various health programs nationwide.

The DOH and the LGUs are firming up this pioneering alliance through a two-day conference dubbed "Making Devolution Work through Health Promotion" which ends today at the Bayview Hotel on Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Conference topics include the universal approach to health promotion, its national framework and policies, and an overview of the National Center for Health Promotion.

These issues are relevant to various health programs being jointly undertaken by the DOH and the LGUs such as the "Sa Iyong Paggising," a telesine on mental health; "Healthy Nanay, Magandang Buhay," the advocacy component of the Women’s Health and Safe Motherhood Program; and the "Smoke-Free Kids," a national tobacco control program.
