Four breeds produced from a goat in Muñoz

SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ, Nueva Ecija — A scientist working to improve small farm animals was able to produce four strains from a female goat, opening the possibility of large-scale production of important small ruminants that will impact on the income of farmers all over the country.

Engineer Efren Alvarez, city administrator, said Dr. Emilio Cruz of the Small Ruminants Center located in the campus of the Central Luzon State University (CLSU), implanted four strains — Anglo-Nubian, Boer, Saanan and Domestic — into a local breed who gave birth to four offsprings in a single pregnancy.

This feat puts Muñoz on the forefront of technology, said Alvarez, brother of City Mayor Dr. Nestor Alvarez.

"This is just one example of the important activities going on in the first chartered Science City and we want to maintain the pace to live up to our billing as a unique environment," he added.
