21 Sino fishers nabbed

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Police have arrested 21 Chinese fishermen for poaching off the coast of southern Pala—wan, police said yesterday.

Chief Superintendent Do—mingo Reyes Jr., Southern Tagalog police director, said the police of Balabac, Palawan apprehended the Chinese fishermen between the islands of Lumbugan and Mangsee following complaints from residents there.

The arresting lawmen were reportedly forced to fire shots at another Chinese vessel which tried to ram into their patrol boat.

Superintendent Jacinto Dino, Palawan police director, said that when the lawmen finally boarded the first Chinese vessel, the boat’s captain tried to bribe them with 300 Hong Kong dollars.

The 21 arrested Chinese were identified as Lin Ci Ping, the boat’s captain; Huang Hai, Xi De Jin, Feng Qi Shin, Xi Deng Kao, Zen Ciao Jin, Zhen Fan Zing, Lin Dao Fang, Bang Ga Hin, Chen Zi Be, He Jing Neng, Li Xin Zu, Ding Zhi Quan, Li Xeng, Chen Xeng, Wu Jai Fung, Liang Di, Wei Qin Zin, Chen Jin Xiong, Huang Kin Qiao and Fu He Shen, all of the People’s Republic of China.– Rene Alviar
