COTABATO CITY Motorcycle-riding suspects blasted a fragmentation grenade inside the yard here of former Maguindanao Gov. Zacaria Candao the other night.
Local probers suspect that the attack could be politically motivated. Candao was in Manila during the incident.
Candao told radio station dxMS that the attackers hurled two grenades inside his yard, but only one exploded. No one was hurt or killed, he said.
Candao said it was the second attack on his residence in four days. Earlier, a handgrenade was tossed in his yard, but it did not explode.
Candao said he was convinced that the attacks were politically motivated.
Since July, Candao, a Lakas-NUCD member, has been working out in court for the annulment of the proclamation of Datu Andal Ampatuan as governor of Maguindanao.
Ampatuan has been ambushed twice since his assumption into office last June 30. He has also branded the slay attempts as politically motivated. John Unson
